On 23 November 2024, Chen & Chang had the honor of co-organizing a conference on “Navigating Offshore Disputes” with the Taiwan Chapter of the Ciarb EAB and the ADR Committee of Taiwan Bar Association (“TWBA”). We were fortunate to have Ms Helen Wang, Partner at Carey Olsen, share her insights and strategies on practical issues in offshore dispute resolution, from her extensive experience in cross-border litigation and handling high-value disputes.
The conference began with opening remarks from Prof. Ju-yin Chen, Vice Dean of Soochow University School of Law. Thereafter, under Helena’s effective moderation, Ms Helen Wang systematically addressed key issues concerning offshore companies, including how to obtain information on offshore companies, how to apply for interim relief before offshore courts, how to seek recognition and enforcement of judgments or arbitral awards, tools available for protecting shareholders’ rights, and factors to be taken into consideration when choosing between arbitration and offshore liquidation proceedings.
The insightful sharing was followed by an interactive Q&A session. Attendees left with deeper understanding of disputes involving offshore companies as well as the available dispute resolution mechanisms, and found the conference highly rewarding.
