The 2025 Taipei International Conference on Arbitration and Mediation was grandly held in Taipei on 28 to 29 October 2025. Alison Chang, Esq., partner at Chen & Chang and Vice-Chair of the ADR Committee of Taiwan Bar Association, moderated the second session “UNCITRAL Model Law and the Changing Foundation.” With a steady and engaging pace, Alison skillfully guided the discussion, accurately capturing the key themes and leading participants to explore in depth the challenges and future directions of international trade dispute resolution mechanisms.
The session featured Assistant Professor Winnie Jo-Mei Ma of Bond University, Ms Ruohan Zhang, PhD Student of City University of Hong Kong, and Mr Blake Emil Menrath-Bonham, a recent graduate of Bond University. The presenters shared their insights on the theoretical and practical development of arbitral consents and mandatory arbitration from diverse perspectives, including mandatory arbitration of business and human rights disputes, investor consent under investment treaties, and mandatory arbitration clauses in clickwrap agreements.
Under Alison’s moderation, the session was lively and intellectually engaging, with participants offering thought-provoking reflections on how the concept of “consent” should be understood in arbitration proceedings.
