Chen & Chang’s Partner Helena Chen Moderated Online Meeting between members of the Taiwan Bar Association and Ms Claudia Salomon, President of the ICC International Court of Arbitration
On the afternoon of 8 September 2026, an online meeting was held amongst Ms Claudia Salomon, President of the ICC International Court of Arbitration, Jason Wu, Vice President of the Taiwan Bar Association (TWBA), Helena Chen, Chair of the TWBA ADR Committee, members of the TWBA ADR Committee, Taiwanese practitioners who had attended the ICC Asia Pacific Conference on International Arbitration (ICC APAC Conference) and other local arbitration practitioners.
President Salomon shared three core principles underlying the ICC’s continued development and provision of international arbitration services:
①Putting the needs of parties and users first, with a strong focus on delivering high-quality client service
②Reflecting this user-oriented mindset in the 2026 ICC Arbitration Rules
③Emphasizing that the "I" in ICC stands for "International", highlighting that internationalism has always been one of the ICC’s defining characteristics
During the 50-minute Q&A session, President Salomon addressed a wide range of questions from participants, covering various aspects of her personal career, professional development in arbitration, selection of arbitral institutions, the seat of arbitration, and arbitration rules. Her responses provided Taiwanese arbitration practitioners with valuable first-hand insights into international arbitration practice, as well as a rare perspective from within a leading arbitral institution.
C&C’s partner Alison Chang and C&C’s associates Claire Liu and Bill Kao also raised questions during the session. They engaged in in-depth discussions with President Salomon on advice for young arbitration practitioners in Taiwan, how young lawyers can engage and build professional networks when attending major international events, and issues regarding arbitration rules, making the exchange highly substantive and rewarding.
