Vis Moot Prep Course On 23 October 2023, Dr. Helena Chen C.Arb FCIArb (our Managing Partner), Ms. Alison Chang FCIArb (our Partner), Mr. Frank Yu (our Trainee) were invited to the Vis Moot Prep Course co-organized by Dr. Stephan Wilske (Partner at Gleiss Lutz) and Mr. Houchih Kuo (Senior Counsel at Kuo & Kuo Attorneys-at-Law). We shared our experiences with the 31st Vis Moot Teams of National Taiwan University and National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University from acting as arbitrators and competing team members.
Dr. Helena Chen, from her abundant experience being an arbitrator both in real life and in moot arbitration, reminded the mooters to analyze the issues in the moot problem and to allocate resources as early as possible. She indicated that diagrams can be a very useful tool to analyze legal relationships among the parties. Ms. Alison Chang reminded the mooters to be aware of time management and teamwork and to avoid failing to address any major issue in oral arguments. Mr. Frank Yu, from his experience of being awarded Honourable Mention for Best Memorandum on behalf of Claimant and Honourable Mention for Best Memorandum on behalf of Respondent in previous Vis East Moot, and awarded Runner-up in previous Moot Shanghai, shared with the mooters the approaches to write a memorandum, to deliver an oral argument, and further shared many practical learning resources. He was well-prepared for the lecture and he held great composure on the stage. His speech gave the mooters an excellent example.
This course was designed to be interactive. Dr. Stephen Wilske, Dr. Pijan Wu, Mr. Houchih Kuo, Mr. Jeffery Lo and Mr. Naoki Iguchi had vibrant discussions with the mooters. We wish the two participating teams all the best with the 31st Vis Moot.
